Jonathan Bennison made his bow in the red vee and looked to have slotted in perfectly as he opened the scoring after 7 minutes with a debut try.
The visitors levelled matters on 25 minutes with a try from their full back.
Harvey McDaid then repaid the favour pushing the Saints in front again with a try converted by Shay Martyn.
But the visitors again pulled level with a converted try of their own four minutes before the break and this was how it stayed.
Trinity took the lead for the first time on 55 minutes and then went further ahead on the hour mark with a converted try.
No matter how hard the Saints tried in the final quarter the visitors held on for a well-deserved victory.
As no points were won or lost todaythis was a good learning experience for last year’s U16’s to understand the step up in standards that they will face. It was also a timely reminder for those who played most of last season in the U19’s league of the increased responsibility they will now face this season.
Most of the game, not surprisingly in the conditions, was played down the middle and Man of the Match Harry Brooks led the way with his charging drives, pushed all the way for that honour by Jumah Sambou.
Reece Sumner threatened out wide whenever in possession as did Kal Rodgers and Owen Blackwood.
Coach Derek Traynor couldn’t fault his side for their effort but individual errors were the difference between the sides on the day.
Much work is still to be done, but there is plenty of time before the U18’s opening match of the league campaign in March away at the Broncos.
