Deon Cross

A hometown lad who has come full circle ⭕

Joining the Saints in April 2025 during the season on a tw0-and-a-half-year deal, Cross joined his beloved team to return to the club where his rugby league journey began.

Born and raised in the town of St Helens, Deon joined our youth development pathway, and then went on to become a Saints Scholar too in the Under 16s. He would then continue as a young talent with his local community club Blackbrook ARLFC, where he played until signing for Rochdale Hornets in 2018.

Continuing his progression, Cross earned his stripes by playing in the Championship firstly with the Hornets before joining Barrow Raiders and Widnes Vikings. In 90 appearances in the competition across the three teams, Deon scored 49 tries before earning his move up into the Super League.

In 2022, Cross made his top-flight debut and since then has racked up 93 appearances in Super League, scoring 32 times, earning England Knights selection as well.

The athletic player is comfortable playing at the centre or on the wing, and was simply ecstatic to come and play for the Red V.

Deon would make his debut in Newcastle at Magic Weekend 2025, against Leeds Rhinos at St. James’ Park to become the 1,298th man to play for our club. However, in his home debut at the Totally Wicked Stadium Deon went over for a try in front of the West Stand, in what was a special moment for the outside back, scoring for the club he has loved all his life.
