St Helens Women
07 | Faye Gaskin
Half Back

Born in Whiston, Faye’s journey as a sports person saw her have trials for Liverpool and with GB athletics before making the call to focus on her rugby. Gaskin’s amateur club was West Bank Bears in Widnes, before needing to move around some clubs once mixed rugby stopped and she needed to find a girls’ team.
After impressing whilst playing for the likes of Chorley, Leigh East or Batley Heath, an England call up in 2015 came, and she was selected to play in the Rugby League World Cup in 2017 too.
When St.Helens announced they were to form a Women’s team, Gaskin signed up to pull on the Red V, playing a crucial role in our formative years, including our first Women’s Challenge Cup trophy in 2021. However, that match sadly saw her suffer a horrific injury fracturing her lateral tibial plateau in three places, which ruled her out of action for almost two years.
2023 was the comeback year for Gaskin, returning to the field in May in an away match against Leeds Rhinos, she earned the Player of the Match honour in a victory. In July the halfback made her comeback complete by settling an enthralling Challenge Cup Semi Final tie against York Valkyrie, kicking a late drop goal to send the Saints through to the Final, the first to be played at Wembley Stadium. St.Helens went on to win the trophy for a third successive season, with Gaskin at the heart of the success.
Building on her comeback campaign, 2024 was arguably Gaskin’s best season as a Saint yet, earning a Woman of Steel nomination for her efforts as the team secured a fourth successive Challenge Cup trophy (a second at Wembley), and the 2024 League Leader’s Shield.
Gaskin had previously declared that 2024 was to be her final season as a player, however the scrumhalf decided to play on with the team again in 2025!
Faye Gakin holds the Heritage Number Eight for the St Helens Women.
