St Helens Women
09 | Katie Mottershead
Hooker

Born in Whiston, Mottershead’s amateur days saw her play for Halton Farnworth Hornets and Thatto Heath Crusaders.
Katie progressed through the England DiSE programme – the RFL’s government-funded Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) which is a talent pathway for 16 to 18-year-olds hoping to perform at the highest level in the women’s game.
As part of her development, Mottershead was involved with the St.Helens Women’s squad for a couple of years before making her First Team debut away at Barrow in the Challenge Cup in 2022.
Progressing into a dynamic and confident hooker, Katie has built up her match appearances season after season, and enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2024 playing her part in the Saints’ double trophy winning year with the Challenge Cup and League Leaders’ Shield.
Following the playing retirement of Tara Jones, the very first player for St.Helens Women, Katie earned the iconic number #9 jersey from the 2025 season.
Katie Mottershead is the Heritage Number 42 for the St Helens Women.
