Adrian Lam has made two changes to the team that he named for the victory over London, with Josh Charnley a big returnee and Louis Brogan coming in for Matt Davis and Ed Chamberlain, the latter of which has gone over to Hull FC for the remainder of the year on loan.

👑 ROYLE ON SAINTS NEEDING TO BE RESILIENT

Honest and upfront about the current run of form the Saints are experiencing, Royle discusses wanting to ‘flip the switch’ and get back to winning ways.

Whilst the Saints have a number of injured players which has led to Paul Wellens demanding a lot from a smaller group of men, but Royle knows that our standards. regardless of who we put out on the field needs to be high.

🔻 WHAT KIT WILL SAINTS BE WEARING?

Whilst Friday is an away match, the Saints’ will be wearing our 24 Home Kit!

Our traditional white shirt with a Red Vee is a sharper, modern look, with watermark shard designs whilst the ‘V’ itself is a subtle two-tone design, a feature never before seen on a St.Helens shirt.

💬 WELLENS’ COACH PREVIEW

Wellens talked about wanting to stem the run of bad results that the Saints are currently on, and that whilst he is asking a lot of a smaller group of his squad who are fit to play, everyone of his St.Helens team share the aim of getting back to winning ways.

Given how Leigh are now looking to scratch their way into the play-offs hunt, and how matches between the Saints and the Leopards have been bruising battles in recent times, the Red V boss knows to expect a tough task at the Leigh Sports Village.

The Saints boss also runs through the latest news regarding his squad, including confirmation that Konrad Hurrell will require neck surgery and is likely to miss the rest of 2024.

🐆 A LOOK AT LEIGH

2023 will live long in the memory for Leyther supporters, ensuring they would stay in the Super League for longer than one season for the first time, and of course their greatest day of the modern era with a Challenge Cup trophy victory at Wembley Stadium.

Expectations in 2024 may have been a little higher than the position they currently find themselves in. looking to break into the play-offs mix.

Adrian Lam has continued to be backed by bold owner Derek Beaumont with some solid recruitment in the off-season. Former Saints Dan Norman and Lewis Baxter are amongst the new faces, but their headline signing is half-back Matt Moylan from NRL side Cronulla Sharks.

Mid-season recruitment has seen them bring in the likes of Brad Dwyer and Darnell McIntosh from Super League sides, and some NRL talent with former Melbourne Storm prop Aaaron Pene, and young English fullback Bailey Hodgson who has been playing in Australia.

Leigh sit in eight place in the league ladder, outside the play-offs mix, but head into this round of matches on a two-match winning run. The Leopards are aiming to make a late surge into the top six, and will view this Friday’s match as a big one for their play-offs bid.

The Saints and Leigh faced off three times in 2023, and once so far in 2024. All four matches were physical, bruising battles. Fans should expect the same on Friday night, with the Red V fighting to get back to winning ways after a tough run of results whilst down on troops due to injuries. The Red V remain in the hunt near the top of the Super League as we head into the final third of the regular season, but need to shake off the recent run of form.

THREE TO WATCH

  • Lachlan Lam – the half-back’s future is the subject of discussion however he appears to be back to his dangerous best, he can run and create and is a vital cog in the Leigh attack
  • Tom Amone – a powerful prop who looks to break through the middle or get a quick play of the ball off
  • Matt Moylan – Leigh’s statement signing, he will look to link up well with Lam and lead off their attacks

📈 MAKINSON CLOSE TO 7TH

Back in the 21-man squad, Tommy Makinson could further cement his place as one of THE great rugby league try scorers with his next four-pointer.

Our #2 is currently in eighth spot in Super League’s all-time try scoring list with 185 tries, just behind Ryan Atkins who has 186. One four-pointer would see Tommy move into joint seventh, with a second taking outright on his own in that spot.

Could Tommy do it on Friday night if selected?

☀️ LEIGH HOSTING SUMMER FAN ZONE

In front of the Leigh Sports Village, they will have a Summer Fan Zone open from 11am!

In the Fan Zone there will be a food and drinks, a funfair, face painting, an F1 Simulator, products from Holland & Barrett, Youth Hub activities and more.
