Ten members of the St.Helens Women’s team have been selected for England Women’s train-on squad, ahead of taking on the Australia Jillaroos in Las Vegas in March 2025.
England Women’s Head Coach Stuart Barrow has selected a 31-player strong train-on squad.
Saints & England captain Jodie Cunningham will lead our internationally selected group, and joining her from our club in this training team will be; Caitlin Casey, Amy Hardcastle, Zoe Harris, Phoebe Hook, Shona Hoyle, Katie Mottershead, Emily Rudge, Erin Stott and Vicky Whitfield.
It was confirmed earlier today that Paige Travis will be leaving the Saints to take up an opportunity with Parramatta Eels in the NRLW, and she has also been selected in this group.
The historic clash between England and Australia takes place on Saturday, 1st March 2025 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as part of a big day of rugby league with four matches played at the venue. England’s match serves as the penultimate fixture of the day, with a Betfred Super League match between Wigan and Warrington opening the event, and two NRL fixtures also taking place with Canberra Raiders facing the New Zealand Warriors, and Penrith Panthers versus Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.
Four of our Saints in the train-on squad were among the last England Women’s team that faced the Jillaroos back in 2017; Cunningham, Hardcastle, Hoyle and Rudge.
England Women will gather for their first training session on Saturday, 7th December, with the team meeting up twice a month during the build-up to Vegas with a 20-player travelling squad set to be announced in February.
Head Coach, Stuart Barrow said: “We’ve had a few weeks to recuperate following the Autumn international against Wales but now all eyes are firmly on the Jillaroos.
“With the fixture coming before the beginning of the Betfred Women’s Super League we have a regular training schedule from now until mid-February to make sure we’re match ready.
“Everyone in this squad has a chance to earn themselves a spot on the plane to Vegas and that is a testament to the quality we have within the group.”
