Joint Head Coaches Derek Hardman & Craig Richards speak to the press following St.Helens Women's reign as the holders of the Women's Challenge Cup came to an end after four years.
The Red V Women took their bid to make it five Challenge Cup trophies in a row to the final day, but fell at the last hurdle to Wigan Warriors, who claimed their first Women’s Cup trophy. The result was also Wigan Women’s first victory over St.Helens in any competition since 2018.
After congratulating the victors, Hardman & Richards were keen to emphasise that our players who have been part of such a historic run of trophies entered Wembley Stadium as legends, and whilst disappointing the loss does not change that.
The pair reviewed the match, with Hardman providing more analysis where he felt it was won and lost, and how the hurt from the defeat can be motivation for the rest of the season with two more trophies up for grabs.
Both also discuss the wider picture of the women’s game, insisting that all involved want more competitive matches week in and week out.
