š¦ LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT LEEDS…
After a rocky 2024, the Rhinos will desire to push back into the Play-Offs spots under Brad Arthur. As we head in Round 15, it appears to be going very well and Leeds come to the home of the Saints on a five-match winning run.
Let’s rewind though, firstly. Arthur took over during last season following the exit of Rohan Smith and brought more steel to the Leeds defence. Now after a full pre-season and looking to a full season in charge of the West Yorkshire side, and a number of new players, Leeds are looking to move back up the table.

One of the big names that has joined for Leeds for this season is Ryan Hall, a winger synonymous with the glory years of the Rhinos’ ‘Golden Generation’. The 37-year-old is Super League’s all-time top try scorer and goes back to Headingley after seven years away.
One of Super League’s most discussed players Jake Connor also joined Arthur’s squad from Huddersfield Giants, looking to re-establish himself as one of the best talents in the competition.
Further additions have included big pack men Keenan Palasia and Cooper Jenkins, both joining from Australian clubs, and the powerhouse winger Maiko Sivo – however he has sadly suffered an ACL injury ruling him out for the season. Not wasting any time in getting a replacement with former Sydney Roosters centre Ethan Clark-Wood joining the blue and amber.

It’s been a mixed bag of results so far in the 2025 season for Leeds. Focusing firstly on Super League matters they have two wins from the opening four matches, but they will need to build consistency is they are to challenge at the top or in the play-offs.
Round 1 was a disappointing home defeat to Wakefield, with only a late score improving the scoreline 12-14. In Round 2 with all the discussion of Salford being back at full strength following the salary cap restrictions, Leeds focused on themselves to earn an impressive 6-32 away victory.
Back at home in the third round the Rhinos took their foot of the gas after marching out to a strong lead over Castleford, but the Tigers grabbed a number of late tries themselves to improve the scoreline.
The Rhinos then went to Catalans Dragons and lost 11-0, failing to register a point at the home of the Dragons for a third successive season, before coming to our house for the Fourth Round of the Challenge Cup and losing 22-14, but with positive signs they are heading in the right direction.
One week on after losing to the Saints, the Loiners got their biggest result of the season so far, deservedly beating the Wigan Warriors at home 12-10, but they could not turn it into a winning run at that point of the season, coming up agonisingly short against Warrington 16-14 away – in a game they could feel they had much more control over.
Back-to-back wins came in April though with a comfortable, albeit tough, 0-28 away win over financially struggling Salford. In came a familiar face too with the return of Kallum Watkins, bolstering their back-row and centre options. Over Easter weekend they then saw off Huddersfield comfortably at home 28-6.

Last time out, another strong showing was put on by Arthur’s men and they led the current league leaders Hull KR for the majority of the match. A debatable red card for both teams late on in the piece made for a fiery finish, but the Robins showed their class to steal the win before Magic Weekend.
It was a very disappointing night in Newcastle for the Saints who fell to a 4-17 defeat to Leeds who levelled the head-t0-head score for the season 1-1. The result also stopped a six-match winning run for the Saints over the Rhinos, and began this current winning run they are on.
Arthur’s men then won a narrow contest at home against Hull FC, 18-16. Leeds than went over to The Jungle to put on a strong performance over a struggling Castleford team 6-29 before back-to-back home victories. Wakefield almost produced a big comeback at Headingley but fell short 22-18 ahead of the Challenge Cup Final weekend.Ā Last time out, the Rhinos may have produced their best performance of the year against the defeated Cup Finalists Warrington Wolves, blitzing the Wire in a strong second half to win 36-12.
The Saints are under no illusion that this is a big game for both ourselves and the Rhinos. Both sides head into it highly motivated and are well in the fight for the top six positions of the league table, but both want to get as high in the ladder as possible, whilst taking points off a fellow contender.
Three to watch
- Lachie Miller – often evades the first defender once he has the ball and injects himself in attack, can be tough to bring down
- Jake Connor – currently at the top of the Man of Steel leaderboard, Connor is in career-best form and is pulling the strings for the Rhinos and looks to set up tries if he can’t score himself
- Ash Handley – co-captain and one of Super League’s fastest men, on an edge you have to be sharp to avoid Handley making a big break
