It did not take long for the visitors to take a fifth minute lead. After forcing a Leeds error on their own goal-line, Saints had a scrum ten metres out, from it we threw it right which allowed former Rhino Konrad Hurrell to round a defender and score. James Roby grabbing an assist on his 500th Saints appearance. Tommy Makinson was unable to convert, 4-0 Saints led.

Saints’ second try came shortly after. We were awarded consecutive penalties on the Rhinos line and after running both, the ball ended with Jack Welsby throwing a great cut-out pass for Makinson on the right wing and he finished well in the corner. He was unable to convert his own try, 8-0 and that is how it stayed until the break.

The first big chance of the second half came for the Rhinos as Jack Walker made a break near the Saints line, but the referee ruled an obstruction as the Leeds fullback crossed the try-line.
More Rhinos pressure, but Saints defence held firm as it has most of this season.
Saints made them pay for not taking their chances. The hosts had the ball of the Saints line, Liam Sutcliffe tried to improvise with a pass but Makinson rushed out to make the interception before rushing the length of the pitch for his second of the night. Mark Percival took over kicking duties and converted to make it 14-0.

We grabbed our second try in as many minutes seconds later. A great move from the Saints from right to left saw Percival made a break down the left-hand side, he then found Jon Bennison with a lovely ‘back-door’ pass and the youngster showed great composure to find Lewis Dodd who strolled underneath the sticks. Percival converted, 20-0.
Saints’ defence continued to stand firm and we were rewarded with our fifth try of the evening nine minutes from time. Off the back of a big break downfield from Bennison again, the excellent Jonny Lomax tried a chip and chase and successfully grabbed the ball un-opposed to score to the left of the sticks. Percival once again added the extras, 26-0.
Saints returned home with an impressive win, on James Roby’s big night.
