Jonny Vaughan

A lifelong fan of St.Helens, Jonny joined the Club at the age of fourteen as a Scholarship player with an ambition to go on to become a senior First Team player.

After two strong seasons in the Club’s Academy system, with matches played in the Reserves too, he has achieved that goal.

In Derek Traynor’s Under 18s side, Jonny was highly consistent in 2023, featuring in every match in the Championship winning campaign. In the Semi-Final victory over Hull FC, he scored a vitally important hat-trick to book the Saints’ spot in the Grand Final. One of our young leaders, Jonny was delighted to become an Academy Champion.

Representative honours have come for Jonny too, firstly being selected and named captain for the Lancashire squad that took on Yorkshire in the county Origin series. Paul Anderson then named Vaughan as England Academy captain for the 2023 mid-season match against France.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Vaughan made the move up into the St.Helens First Team, ending his first senior pre-season with a try in both our friendlies against Salford Red Devils and Swintion Lions. He would go on dual-registration with the Lions ahead of making his official Saints and Super League debut at home against Castleford Tigers in July 2024.
