Bryn Hargreaves has signed a two-year contract that will see him remain at the Saints until End of Season 2010.
The young prop has demonstrated a lot of potential in Super League XIII and has backed that up with hard work and the right attitude.
Since joining Saints from Wigan in 2006, he has made 26 appearances and scored five tries – including a hat-trick when he came off the bench against Bradford in June.
Saints Chief Executive, Tony Colquitt, said: “We are delighted to agree terms with Bryn. He is worked hard this season and we are looking forward to him going from strength to strength next year.”
Bryn, who had a short loan spell at Leigh before joining the Saints, added: “I’m very happy to have finally sorted out my new contract.
“The next two years will be very exciting for the Club with a new coach and new faces and I am delighted to be a part of it.
“I could have moved elsewhere for a bigger contract, but I wanted to stay at the Club because I believe I have more chance of winning trophies here than at any other.”
Meanwhile, St Helens Rugby League Club is aware of the findings of the 2007 Salary Cap and would like to state that they accept its results.
We have always welcomed the introduction of the Salary Cap and are pleased to see that its objective of creating a more competitive Super League across all member clubs is coming into place.
This is the first year in which no clubs have been called to appear before the Rugby Football League’s Operational Rules Panel and thus shows the Salary Cap is leading to a more equal competition.
This year, St Helens signed no extra players but has put out three of its top 25-squad players on loan. Five of the League Leader’s 25-man squad also went on the England Academy’s Tour to Australia.
The Club will be releasing five players next season and potentially loaning out four or more to gain valuable Super League experience.
Despite this, the Club will only be recruiting a maximum of two new players next season.
The Club will continue its policy of recruiting from its highly successful junior set up. In the long term, this will benefit not just the Club, but is essential for the future success of the game at International level.
The miniscule breach of the 2007 Cap is based on a simple historical formula calculation error which was in place before the start of the 2007 season. This has now, under the current administration, been rectified.
This calculation error meant that unfortunately the club did not qualify for the deductible allowances for Under 21 players.
Given the size, St Helens Rugby League Club feel the breach is not worthy of any further comment.
