Academy Head To Mountains

DAY 18 – We were out this morning for the bus ride west to Katoomba and the scenic world tourist attraction within the Blue Mountains region, writes Ian Talbot.

The lads had some photographs taken in front of the ‘Three Sisters’, a historical aboriginal landmark, before taking the scenic railway down to the foot of the rainforest.

The scenic railway is the steepest passenger train in the world and had Josh Eaves worried.

The scenic walkway amongst the ancient temperate rain forest showed some of the history of mining in the area and sights of some local wildlife, which again drew some memorable comments… Jack Unsworth saying “Is that bird a monkey?” and Cameron Brown and Kieron O’Mara asking if Jurassic Park is a place that they can visit.

But more notably Eric Frodsham asking if the guide would be able to show us parts of the rainforest that haven’t been discovered yet.

After a brief stop at our home it was on to St Mary’s for our final training session of the tour – the Captain’s Run session before tomorrow’s final game against Penrith.

This game has historically been the highlight of the tour and tomorrow will be no different.

Training went well; a feeling of nervous excitement could be sensed as the lads know they will have to perform at their best if they want to achieve the goal of remaining unbeaten.

Dinner was once again at the favourite St Mary’s Leagues Club and their all you can eat buffet.

The food throughout the tour has been plentiful and exceptional but this is the only place in this city that can meet the demands of Cameron Brown’s appetite.

We’ve had some lads on all of the tours that like to eat but Cameron takes it to another level.

Matty Costello made the comment of the evening when discussing the pudding options. A couple were saying how good the bread and butter pudding was, to which Cozzy said, “I’ve always thought that bread and butter pudding is apple crumble covered in cream!”

With the big game looming it was back home and in bed for an early night.
