The Stats:
Saints currently sit 12 points ahead of the Wire and won the League Leaders’ Shield last weekend following our win over Wakefield and Warrington’s defeat in the south of France.
The two sides have gone head to head twice already this season, Saints winning both. A massive 38-12 victory against the Wolves at the Totally Wicked Stadium in April was followed by a 21-10 victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium just over a month ago.
The Saints are the top try scorers in 2019, scoring 138 tries so far this campaign. Wire on the other hand, have scored 108 tries, the third most in the Betfred Super League.
Saints winger, Tommy Makinson, has crossed the try-line 18 times so far this season, including some spectacular finishes in the right corner. Meanwhile, for the Wolves, Blake Austin is their leading try-scorer, also scoring 18 times in his debut season at the Wolves, but he will miss tonight’s fixture due to injury.
Team News and Match Preview:
Both sides’ have named their 19-man squad for the match with both teams’ missing a number of key men. Former Saint Matty Smith could make his debut for Warrington after signing on loan from Catalans this week.
Head Coach Justin Holbrook doesn’t believe the result tonight will impact on the Challenge Cup Final when the two teams’ play each other again.
Danny Richardson, who scored last week against Wakefield and kicked the last minute penalty when the teams met at the Halliwell Jones Stadium last season is looking forward to a big crowd again tonight.
The Man in the middle:
The referee for our clash tonight is Ben Thaler whilst the video referee will be Robert Hicks.
