Hull FC v Saints

The restart is contested, a double knock on but Saints did so first.

Hull after an offside penalty once again get towards our half, but throwing a pass out to the left it’s a bad one and goes out.

🔄 Sironen off, Paasi back on.

Saints 20m out kick once again to the left and Davies again stops Barron strongly.

Hull FC then knock on coming away from their own line.

Hull have been limited on the ball in our half, but a penalty helps them up-field. Saints keep scrambling and then cop a high shot to end the challenge.

🔄 Clark off, Burns on. Let’s go Burnsy!

Pressure off the Black & Whites after a period deep in their own half, Ben Davies made a great stop on his opposite man but was judged to have stayed in the tackle too long.

Clark and Knowles next to the try line go for a short pass but it comes off Morgan’s shoulder. Let off for the hosts.

Hull cannot get out of their own half though, a Trueman kick tries to find Barron but Dodd leaps on the loose ball.

Fair play, the last ditch defence from Hull stopped Sironen on the charge brilliantly there, especially on their own line.

Knowles on the first carry from the restart causes FC problems and is held down in the tackle for a penalty.

The Black & Whites are held in their own half, much more like from Saints this performance in both attack and D.

We now force a GLDO as well after a Dodd short kick.

Saints get a six-again and challenge the Hull FC line once more, a very close call by Noah Stephens who broke but wasn’t initially tackled.

Clark then tries a kick, but no good.

We keep the hosts by the halfway line on their first attacking set of the second period, and a good catch from Robertson under pressure.

Calm opening second half set from Saints, Mbye kicks high and Davies is there to make an immediate tackle on Barron.

Solid defensive work from Wellens’ men by their own line, Hull go close but never over the line.

Saints go oh so close to a third try, Clark got an offload away to Robertson. On the last Mbye’s kick can’t be taken and Martin takes Hull away from danger, we give them a penalty to help them as well. Frustrating.

Kick missed by Makinson.

That is another great set from the Saints, hitting the short-side twice Mbye ends it with a kick which Lewis Martin must clear out of the side for 10m restart.

Good set after points, the Saints push towards the Hull 40m and then kick to tackle Harvey Barron 10m off his own line.

Great carries by Noah Stephens get us back closer to the FC line, Dodd tries a chip to the left for Davies and Ritson but in a contest for the ball we knock it forward.

Great kick from Dodd has to be cleared for a GLDO.

Superb clearing run from Ritson, after an awkward bounce too.

Matty Lees gets a short ball next to the line from Clark and he drives through the Hull FC defensive line but after a video ref check sent up as a try, it is not given.

🔄 Stephens on, Knowles off.

Jack Walker breaks the Saints line on the last after a rogue pass from a teammate, but we scramble and force them to lose the ball.

Makinson now takes an awkward kick off Trueman, he lands harshly due to the contest as well – but plays on.

🔄 Paasi off, Bell on.

Makinson gets a cut-out pass but it’s well scouted by FC to stop him.

Another reliever for the hosts from a judged high tackle.

Robertson on a kick return fends and breaks a couple of tackle, great stuff from the young fullback.

Mbye now with a floating ball for Makinson, but Tommy can’t take it from Hull FC and they keep us out for now.

FC float a cross field ball to their right winger but Ritson stops any threat, and Tee is then taken high on the next play.

Waqa Blake runs into a gap just 10m out, he looks for an offload but it goes into Hull hands. The hosts then kill our momentum by offloading twice to get out of their own red zone, and a high shot penalty assists them.

Hull following the penalty move into our half, however good line pressure forces them to knock on with a couple tackles remaining in the set.

Hull catch a high one by their own line, but we are judged offside to give the hosts a relieving penalty.

Hull get a little bit of joy with some second phase play on their right-edge to make metres, but a final pass is forward.

The Saints go close with Paasi and Clark, both trying to power over and our #9 was just held up under the sticks on the last.

Ritson contests a high Dodd bomb, the hosts try claim he took his opposite man in the air but it was a genuine contest for the ball.

FC now knock on coming out of their own 30m.

More good work from St.Helens in defence, the attack pushed the Black & Whites towards their own 20 and a kick was well chased as well.

Good first bit of defence from the Saints, the hosts kick from in their own half.
