Saints v Hull KR

⏹ Full time.

Saints fall to a heavy defeat at home to Hull KR.

Lomax’s attempt for a hit-out pass to Ritson is too low, we can’t get that late score.

A rare penalty for the Saints, we now head into their red zone looking for a consolation score.

After pushing the visitors back to their own 20m, a kick goes up and Makinson pats it back inside but it is judged forward.

🔄 Stephens on, Lees off.

Two bad hits from KR, firstly Lomax is hit late and then Vaughan gets a shoulder tackle off Hiku.

Penalty for Saints given. Only our second go in the KR 20m in the game.

🔄 Paasi on, Delaney off.

Ritson gets us out of dodge in-goal and back in field.

On the last, Robertson gets a pass but unfortunately knocks on.

🔄 Batchelor on, Mata’utia off.

The Saints go close, Vaughan jukes his opposite man and before being tackled fires a high pass for Makinson – too high and stops the challenge.

Ritson then on the right is forced back on the last.

Better defence from the Red V, first cutting down a kick and then forcing a knock-on a minute later.

A rare chance so far to go into KR’s red zone.

Saints hold the Robins out, Blake with a massive hit on Lewis.

Mata’utia gets an intercept and sprints 30m but Parcell strips the ball off him on the ground to stop our threat.

The Red V go well to keep Hull KR out, Mbye has to clear a bouncing ball for a GLDO.

Saints lose the ball in a tackle, KR get a dangerous set.

Both sides trading sets to start this half, Saints still not able to get much ball in the opposition half so far…

Second half now underway. Right, come on Saints, let’s have better in this next forty.

Saints get their first penalty of the game, 18 seconds left to play in the half after holding down at the ruck.

Saints go hunting on the right wing, Ritson now there and Makinson on the left. Robertson fends away one defender and has the ball in one hand but loses it as he goes to pass… Agony.

Ritson with an outstanding break takes us off our own 30m line and up to the Rovers. A spark we needed.

Whitby takes on the line, trying to create a gap. Lomax then goes high with a kick and Robertson leads the chase.

Saints have been well and truly limited on opportunities to play in the Robins’ half. Once again, the visitors have us pinned by the halfway line and a big kick is needed.

🔄 Lees off, Stephens on.

Two late offloads from the Robins next to our line and they go over the try line, but it’s a forward pass.

Robins break the line on the right, but we scramble well this time to stop the first threat.

KR then kick into space across the field to Hall and Blake chooses to clear it out for a GLDO.

A tough set for the Red V, metres limited again by the Robins but some good signs from the likes of Vaughan with a good drive.

Lewis misses the kick.

That won’t help, Saints stop KR 40m out from our line but on the last a penalty given for interference at the ruck.

Blake back on following the sin bin.

Saints struggling to get out of their own half, Robins firmly in control of the territory battle at present.

Robertson fields a very high kick and beats the first defender.

Saints move up to the KR 40m line, Lomax and Robertson try to link up, Harry then offloads to Moses Mbye but we get penalised for being offside at that kick after it came off a Robins man.

Robins on the left where Blake is now missing try to attack but knock on.

Mbye punts a kick from dummy half around the 40 but the wind looks strong and is caught easily by Evalds.

Good defence from the Saints after the penalty, KR once again try twice going to their right but we tackle Burgess on the first and force a rogue pass on the second.

Saints penalised for staying in the ruck too long, KR kick up to halfway for easy metres.

Mikey Lewis misses the kick.

A poor start straight off the kick-off, confusion between Whitby and Vaughan sees them both collide trying to catch the ball.
