A big Aussie back-row 💪

Wright initally joined the Saints on loan until the end of the 2025 season from Salford Red Devils. With the Greater Manchester club, he was a solid and highly consistent performer. At six feet, two inches tall, the forward displayed utility value by playing in the front row too.

Before his move to the Super League, Wright played for NRL side North Queensland Cowboys, where he was named Rookie of the Year in 2019, and in 2020 helped the Townsville side win the NRL Nines. As he progressed during his early professional career, he also featured on loan for the Mackay Cutters.

On Friday, 29th August 2025, Wright was announced as a loan signing for the Saints, following the de-registration of Konrad Hurrell.

Shane made his debut for Saints on Friday, 19th September 2025, in a home victory over Castleford Tigers.

On only his second appearance for the Saints, Wright wrote himself into Saints folklore…

The Red V were taking on Leeds Rhinos at Headingley in an Eliminator Play-Off, and following a penalty, the team had one more tackle to try and snatch a dramatic, late win. Pulling the ball across the field and back again, Shane finished off the incredible sixteen-pass play and sealed a remarkable victory. The try, ‘Left To Wright’, came in the week of the 25th anniversary of one of the most beloved scores in St.Helens and Rugby League history, ‘Wide To West’.

On the following Monday after that incredible score, the Saints confirmed the news that Shane would be sticking around after signing a two-year contract with the Club, running until the end of the 2027 season, which was always the intent when Wright initially came in on loan.
