Joe Batchelor

🎶 Tsamina mina zangalewa, we’ve got Joe Batchelor! 👏

The back-rower joined St.Helens from the 2019 season from York Knights where he helped that club secure promotion from League One. Making his Saints debut in that year, Batchelor worked hard to earn opportunities by going out on dual-registration with Leigh and back at York too.

Joe played his squad role in 2019 and 2020 as the Club won back-to-back Grand Finals, but 2021 under Kristain Woolf was a breakthrough campaign making 22 appearances and playing in his first Grand Final as the Red V made it a three-peat of Super League titles.

For all his efforts, ‘Batch’ was rewarded with the number #12 shirt in 2022 and further established himself as a key man for our club, with his best scoring season to date and linking up strongly with Jonny Lomax. He went on to make his England debut and be part of the England squad at the delayed Rugby League World Cup 2021.

Testament to the character of Joe, he sadly missed out on the 2023 World Club Challenge due to an injury picked up just seven days before in a warm-up match, but it did not phase him in wanting to play a role for the team. With his injured foot in a boot he joined the celebrations after the dramatic golden point winning drop goal to the delight of his teammates.

2023 was a hit and miss year for Joe due to injuries, but when he was on field he displayed just how important he is to the team, and his effort is never less than 100%.

On the injury front our Saints did it tough in 2024, with Joe missing a brief period at the start of the year but making 19 appearances. As one of the team’s leaders he helped the team get through a tough time and headed into 2025 helping the squad re-focus on improving and delivering the performances and results this club demands.

‘Batch’ made his 100th St.Helens appearance in March 2025 at home against Hull KR.
