Saints made it consecutive Betfred Super League victories after beating Catalans Dragons 4-36 in Perpignan!

First Half

Saints had the first chance six minutes in. Saints went down the short-side on the right inside the Catalans ten, Jackson Hastings found Tristan Sailor who tried to burrow his way over in the corner but he was pushed into touch short of the line.

A few minutes later, the hosts had their first chance. Toby Sexton put in a kick with the outside of his right foot towards the left corner but Charlie Staines was unable to collect the ball and Saints had a seven-tackle set.

Saints took full advantage of that set. Shane Wright broke down the middle of the Catalans defence, he found Daryl Clark in support on his right and he raced half the length of the pitch to score on his 350th Super League appearance. Jackson Hastings converted, 0-6 the visitors led.

The hosts tried to level the scores. Former Saint, Lewis Dodd broke down the middle of the field but couldn’t find support and Saints recovered. The visitors were then accidentally caught offside on our own line when collecting a kick but David Klemmer made a crucial interception in the repeat set and raced the other way to relieve the pressure.

27 minutes in, Dodd tried a low kick to the left corner again, This time Solomona Faataape couldn’t bring the ball in and Saints again had a seven-tackle set.

Catalans had a spell of pressure towards the end of the half without creating any big chances. Saints led 0-6 at the break in Perpignan after a tight opening forty minutes.

Second Half

Catalans had a big chance to grab their first points of the game seven minutes into the second half. The hosts had possession on Saints’ line, Dodd looked to step his way towards the line but dropped the ball as he went to ground it.

Three minutes later, Saints had a second try. Clark found Jacob Host and he powered over the line from close range to score. Hastings added the conversion, 0-12 Saints led.

Saints had a third try on the hour-mark. Sailor made a break but was halted by Staines in Catalans territory. The visitors shifted the ball from right to left, that ended with Hastings finding Wright who spun over to score from close range. Hastings added another two points with the conversion, 0-18.

A fourth almost followed. Hastings put a low kick under the posts which Sailor chased, Catalans were forced to concede a dropout.

With the repeat set, Saints did have another try. Inside the Catalans ten, Clark picked the ball up from dummy half after a carry from Alex Walmsley and drove towards the line before reaching out to score under pressure. Hastings converted, 0-24.

Catalans grabbed a consolation try with just over ten minutes to go. Josh Simm broke down the left wing, he found Staines in support and he scored in the corner. Sexton couldn’t add the extras, 4-24.

Saints were awarded a penalty in front of the sticks with nine minutes to go and opted for two points. Hastings added two more points to his tally by kicking it, 4-26.

There was time for one final Saints try. The visitors shifted it well through the hands from left to right, Harry Robertson found Kyle Feldt who finished acrobatically in the corner. Hastings maintained his 100% record with the conversion from the right touchline, 4-32.

Feldt had a second try one minute later. Hastings kicked high to the right edge, Feldt outjumped Staines in the corner and span over the line upon landing to score. George Whitby took over kicking duties but was unable to add the extras.

Saints recovered the resulting kick off before the fulltime siren sounded. A well deserved 4-36 victory for the Red V in the South of France against the Catalans Dragons, as we picked up our second win of the season!
