George Delaney

Saint George is one of the most uncompromising young forwards in Super League 😇

Delaney is a proud product of the Saints’ Academy and Scholarship programmes, having joined the Club at the age of 15 from amateur side Halton Farnworth Hornets.

Delaney made his senior debut in the Red V back in 2022 after progressing strongly through our ranks. In late 2022, George was named St.Helens’ Under-18s Player of the Year for his outstanding performances in the year.

2023 was a breakthrough season for the prop with injuries giving him the opportunity for regular First Team rugby, and the impressive young man did not take a backward step, running and tackling like a player much beyond his own years.

The just reward of a three-year contract extension for George was confirmed in August 2023, keeping the front-rower locked as a Saint until at least the end of the 2026 season. He closed out 2023 by being crowned Saints’ Young Player of the Year.

Following on from a strong year, 2024 saw George step up and play even more big minutes in the middle of the field as the Saints suffered a summer full of injuries to our senior players. Delaney’s efforts were remarkable with big carries and tough tackles, earning him his first international call-up for England’s mid-season game against France. George was 18th player for the fixture so, unfortunately, he did not make his England debut. After landing back home, he sought to be back in club training and keep performing and improving.

2024 overall was a very impressive season again from Delaney, so much so that he was named on the three-man shortlist for 2024’s Super League Young Player of the Year Award. George was also named as the Saints’ Young Player of the Year for a second successive year.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Delaney ensured that his long-term future would remain with St.Helens, signing a new four-year deal, keeping him in the Red V until at least the end of the 2028 season!

Delaney got off to a strong start in 2025, scoring his second Saints try in our victory over Salford Red Devils in Round One, running forty metres to go in and score in the right corner. 2025 was another strong campaign from the uncompromising young front-rower, featuring in all but two matches through the year.
