A strong 80 minute performance saw Saints beat Castleford Tigers 40-0 at the Totally Wicked Stadium!
First Half
Saints opened the scoring six minutes in. After Castleford spilled a high kick, Saints had a repeat set on the Tigers line and a few tackles in Moses Mbye found Mark Percival with a cut out pass and he broke through a gap to open the scoring. Kyle Feldt added the extras, 6-0 Saints led early on.
Ten minutes in, we had a trip to the video referee. Saints went down the left edge, Tristan Sailor put in a kick with the outside of his right foot which he chased, their was a touch which sent the ball airborne and Owen Dagnall pounced on the loose ball to score. The on-field verdict of try was agreed with, as Saints extended their early lead. Feldt couldn’t convert from the touchline, 10-0.
A third quick try nearly followed. Saints again went left, Percival passed back inside to Sailor who scored but the referee ruled a forward pass.
Saints did have a third try midway through the first half. Sailor peaked through a gap down the right edge and broke before throwing an audacious offload in a tackle to Feldt who scored in the corner. He turned his four points into six with the conversion, 16-0.
The hosts had a fourth try just before the half-hour mark. Daryl Clark picked the ball up from the base of the scrum 30 metres out and broke through a gap before scoring to the right of the sticks. Feldt converted, 22-0.
Just before the break we had a trip to the video referee. Castleford moved the ball right, and former Saint Josh Simm reached out under pressure to score in the corner. Despite the on-field verdict of try, the replays showed Saints have done well in defence to force him into touch prior to grounding the ball.
There was still time for one more Saints try before the break though. Castleford kicked towards the Saints right edge, Harry Robertson plucked the ball out the air and raced 90 metres the other way to score. Feldt added the conversion.
28-0 Saints led at the break after a dominant opening 40 minutes, scoring five tries at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
Second Half
Saints tried to add to the advantage early on in the second half. Jonny Lomax kicked high towards Feldt on the right edge but the ball was knocked on and the Tigers restarted on their 20.
Castleford tried to open their tally for the night. A knock on by Saints deep inside our own half gave them a repeat set. A few tackles in, Daejarn Asi found Tom Amone running a strong line but a great tackle but George Delaney forced a knock on, with the try-line beckoning.
The hosts had another great chance to add to the scoreline. A high kick by Moses Mbye was hit backwards by Feldt, Clark found Jake Wingfield who was held up over the line. A few tackles later, Saints went left and Curtis Sironen was held up over the line this time around after an aggressive run. Castleford lost Zac Cini for a HIA as a result of making the tackle.
We had a trip to the video referee with 12 minutes to go. Saints worked the ball through the hands well down our left edge, Dagnall broke and headed infield before kicking towards the left edge, it was a footrace to the loose ball which he won to score his second try of the evening in the corner. Feldt converted from the touchline, 34-0.
The Red V had another from the kick off. The hosts used up a few tackles before Agnatius Paasi sailed through a gap, he found Sailor in support on his inside and he scored under the post. Feldt added another two points, 40-0.
With less than three minutes to go, the Red V had another chance. Good play once again set Dagnall away down the left wing, he found Lomax but Castleford got back to tackle him. Saints then moved the ball right, Robertson found Feldt but he was pushed into touch as he dove towards the corner.

💪 A strong Saints home win over the Tigers, and we keep them to nil!
Full time sponsored by Liverpool John Lennon Airport
Some great play by our men, keeping the ball alive and going edge to edge trying to get one more score. Feldt dives into the corner, but he’s in touch.
Sailor finds the left corner blocked, runs back into the middle and grubbers ahead to chase himself but the Tigers take it out of dodge.
A kick bounces unkindly for Cas, Sailor taps it back and he keep it moving to Feldt on the wing, but then Robertson gets tackled.
However, Cas lose the ball in their second tackle of the set.
🔄 Sironen off, Wingfield on.
Feldt makes it six out of seven with the boot, and take us up to forty. 🥾
⛵ SAILORRRRR!
Paasi breaks the Cas defensive line and on the run has Trist there in support in the middle to go under the sticks!

🤯 DAGNALLLLL! 🤯 WHAT A TRY!
The ball is worked out to Owen by the halfway line, he cuts inside, then kicks from about 30m out to the left corner, it stays by the in-goal area and he dives on it!
VR check confirms it!
It’s copy and paste defence, the Tigers can’t get into our half at the moment. Sailor’s dealt with each tricky kick well too.
The Saints set up on the left, Sailor with a reverse pass into an onrushing Percival, but Mark loses the ball trying to take more post-contact metres.
Again the Saints hold Cas deep in their own half.
Terrific chase by Dagnall following a high kick and he makes a strong hit on Simm.
Brilliant defence by St.Helens, Cas do not get out of their own 30m before kicking on the last.
🔄 Clark and Wingfield off, Burns and Knowles on.
The Tigers push on their left, but our right edge defence holds them back well.
Lomax straight from the scrum tries hitting Percival with a pass on the go, but it comes off Mark’s arm and forward.
A cagey couple of minutes.
Another let off for Cas, Mbye tries to take a pass and move but knocks on.
However, Cas early in their set pass forward.
🔄 Delaney off, Lees on.
Saints push forward again. This time Sailor’s low kick is claimed by the visitors but a good chase forces a dropout!
Cini comes off for a HIA.
An Mbye kick gets patted back by Feldt to Clark, he finds Wingfield who gets held up.
Sironen then on a short ball tries powering over, but is held up.
Time off, a Cas man is down hurt.
It’s gone a bit set-for-set this match now, Cas showing more in defence and Saints yet to really get some consistent, good field territory to attack.
George Delaney with a terrific tackle on Tom Amone, who on the charge close to the line got shut down by our #19, and then knocks on.
Cas on the hunt now, Daganll knocked on a high kick to gift them another set.
First major attack of the half for Saints, with Cas back on their own line Lomax kicks to Feldt in the corner, but Kyle can’t take it.
A high kick is knocked on by the Tigers’ debutante Andy Djeukessi. Head up young man.
But, Saints looking to be ruthless are on the attack.
Steady from both, Cas looking to be a bit more upfront in their defensive efforts early on here.
Back to it!

An intercept by our own line, Robertson races the length of the field and just keeps the chasing Cas men at bay to go over for a brilliant score!
😇 26-0 🐯
By the visitor’s 40m we cough the ball up, a shame as we looked to have Cas rolling back.
Pulling the ball out to the right, former Saint Josh Simm goes in at the corner but it is sent upstairs to the Video Ref.
After a check, the Tigers winger had a foot in touch.
Dagnall jumps to a high bomb, but it comes off his hand and the Tigers will challenge in front of our line once again.
More calm work by our S-Men after the points, pushing Cas back towards their own 20.

Curtis Sironen collects a tricky Daejarn Asi kick, close to the sticks, ending the threat for now.
Challenge is successful. Cas will get their first real go at our line.
With a rare sight of the try line in their sights, the Tigers look to have knocked on. However, we will have a Captain’s Challenge by our visitors.
Robertson on the right edge tries to get an offload away, but it doesn’t get away and Cas get a slight reprieve.
Kyle nails this one from out wide! ✌

😇 10-0 🐯
Feldt misses the goal conversion attempt from out wide.
TRYYYYY FOR DAGGERS!
VR check confirms the ball went up off a Cas man, and Owen’s great chase is rewarded!
Possible try for Saints here! The VR is called upon after a Sailor kick ricochets up, Dagnall chases it before it bounces out and claims a score.
Tigers don’t get out of their own half before kicking down field.
Good catch from our men.
Calm set following the first points of the day, we chase a kick in the Tigers half well too. Looking to restrict the visitors’ metres.
Kyle Feldt kicks two more points 🦵

😇 6-0 🐯
THE PRINCE 🤴
A beauty of a line from Mark, Mbye hits the pass to him perfectly too, and Percival strolls into the middle of the field after busting through!
😇 4-0 🐯
A high bomb comes off a player’s head, Robertson then recovers it inches off the line.
Lomax tries a drive over himself, but held up.
Cas kick from just beyond the halfway line, Feldt allows it to bounce and then pinches more metres with a strong carry.
Steady defence by our men to start, then on the attack Sailor threatens to break through and offload but the pass is no good.
